Japanese White-eyes  recorded per party hr on the Kapa'a Christmas Count, Kaua'i,
     1971-2007 (see Count
    Page), indicating a significant decline
through the period. It is possible that this species
underwent its population peak in the 1940s-1960s and is now declining, as often occurs
with introduced bird populations in Hawaii. Graphs of Christmas Count data
developed as part of The Birds of the Hawaiian Islands: Occurrence, History, Distribution, and
Status by Robert L. Pyle and Peter Pyle http://hbs.bishopmuseum.org/birds/rlp-monograph/2009/
