Japanese White-eyes  recorded per party hr on the Kapa'a Christmas Count, Kaua'i,

1971-2007 (see Count Page), indicating a significant decline through the period. It is

possible that this species underwent its population peak in the 1940s-1960s and is

now declining, as often occurs with introduced bird populations in Hawaii.
