Pomarine Jaegers recorded per
party hr on the Honolulu Christmas Count, O'ahu,
1944-2014 (see Count
Page). Higher numbers from the late 1950s to
the early
1980s reflect attraction of this and other seabird
species to a wastewater outflow off
Sand Island. Variation in count totals during this
period reflects daily variation in the
presence and/or visibility of jaegers from shore,
dependent on outflow, current, and
weather conditions (see text). No Pomarine
Jaegers have been recorded after the outflow was closed in the 1980s.
