The misty summit of Mt. Ka'ala, in the Waianae Mountains of Oahu. The large spiky plants are 'ie'ie ( Freycinetia arborea ), the favored breeding site for Megalagrion koelense . The immatures are found in the water pockets at the leaf bases of the 'ie'ie . Although this plant grows throughout a wide elevational range, it harbors damselflies only at those sites where rain and mist provide continual moisture.
