Hawaii's Extinct Species -- Insects

As with all extinct species, we can never know if each one is truly extinct. Most of those listed here have not been seen for almost 100 years. However, there is always a slim chance that intensive surveys will rediscover species previously thought to be extinct. The recent Megalagrion damselfly surveys in the 1990s have shown that extensive surveying can sometimes reveal small surviving populations of species otherwise thought to have been extinct for many years.
