The Laysan Duck is restricted to Laysan Island where it feeds on insect larvae and brine flies breeding along the edge of the saline lagoon. It had almost gone extinct due to meat and feather hunters and the introduction of rabbits. Its future depends on protection from introduced predators and ensuring a constant food supply of insects.Photo by J. Marks/USFWS
