The family Limnorhyphidae was proposed by Hong (1983) for the single genus
Limnorhyphus Hong from the Middle Jurassic Haifanggou deposits of
Liaoning, China. Hong (1983) placed it near the Olbiogastridae [= Anisopodidae]
based on the wing venation. The antennae and wing venation are similar to
Scatopsidae and Anisopodidae.
