Family MESOPHANTASMATIDAE



The family Mesophantasmatidae was erected by Rohdendorf (1962) for the single specimen of Mesophantasma tipuliforme Rohdendorf from the Upper Jurassic Karatau deposits of Kazakhstan. The type specimen is represented by only the left wing and has many parts of its venation obscured. Many of the veins and crossveins illustrated by Rohdendorf are guesses and are in reality not visible in the type specimen.

Rohdendorf (1964) placed the family in its own Superfamily Mesophantasmatidea near the Protendipedidae.
