The family Mesosciophilidae was proposed recently by Blagoderov (1994),
who raised the subfamily Mesosciophilinae of Rohdendorf (1946) to family
level., provided descriptions of the complete body of species of this family,
and illustrated the fossil specimens. Previous to the study of Blagoderov,
fossils of this family were known only from wings.
In addition to the described genera listed below, the Australian fossil,
originally described as Pseudalysiinia fragmenta by Jell & Duncan
(1986), may possibly represent a new genus of Mesosciophilidae according
to Blagoderov (1994). The genus Eoboletina Rohdendorf is treated
in this catalog as questionably included in the Mesosciophilidae following
Blagoderov (1994).
