The Pseudopomyzidae are a little-known family of acalypterate flies, which
previously have included the genera of Cypselosomatidae. Extant taxa are
known from every zoogeographical region except the Afrotropical. Very little
is known of their biology. Adults of extant forms have been found in banana
bait traps and have been reared from larvae found under bark.
The fossil record is bleak. Only one species has been recorded from Baltic
amber.
