Family SERENDIPIDAE

The family Paratendipedidae was proposed by Hong & Wang (1990) for the extinct genus Paratendipes Hong & Wang, 1990. Unfortunately, the genus on which the family name is based is preoccupied. The new replacement name, Serendipa Evenhuis, was thus proposed in the original catalog. An additional genus, Thamnitendipes Hong & Wang, 1990, is also placed in this family. The family is known only from the Jurassic deposits of China. Hong & Wang (1990) placed the family close to the Chironomidae.
