Unplaced BRACHYCERA

Among the genera listed below that cannot be placed with certainty in any brachycerous family, Palaeophora, was originally described in the Phoridae under the preoccupied generic name Archiphora Rohdendorf (1938). It was later (Rohdendorf, 1951) removed to its own family, Paleophoridae. Hennig (1954: 369p;70) agreed that it was not a phorid, nor even a close relative. Rohdendorf (1964) classified the family Paleophoridae as undetermined to infraorder. Because Hennig's interpretation were based solely on Rohdendorf's illustrations (which are known to have many inaccuracies in depiction of venation), Palaeophora is provisionally listed here as unplaced in the Brachycera until such time as the type can be reexamined.

In addition to the determined forms listed below, undetermined material of Muscoidea was recorded from the Pliocene amber of the Philippines by Durham (1956: 52).
