This leech came to us attached to another introduced critter, probably an aquarium fish. they have gotten into our stream ecosystems by the dumping of unwanted aquarium fish into streams. These leeches are deadly parasites on our native fishes. They are found in streams that also contain alien fishes, but are not found in streams with only native fishes.
