Classification: Kingdom: Protoctista. Phylum: Chlorophyta. Family: Caulerpaceae

Origin: Cosmpolitan.

Status: Common.

Distribution: Intertidal areas of most islands but can be found down as far as 60 feet (ca. 20 meters).

This seaweed has sphered resembling bunches of grapes, thus its common name. It is found on reefs and in shallow waters throughout the tropics and is eaten by some Pacific islanders as a vegetable. Because it can produce symptoms similar to ciguatera poisoning, care should be taken before eating! It goews rapidly in quiet waters of warm ocean areas.
