Dunlins recorded per party hr on the Waipi'o
Christmas Count, Kaua'i, 1977-2014 (see Count
Page), showing a decline in
numbers between the 1970-1980s and the 1990-2010s. This change is likely related to changing
habitat related to the removal of sugar-mill settling ponds on the Waipi'o
Peninsula during the 1990s. Graphs of Christmas Count data developed as part
of The Birds of the Hawaiian Islands: Occurrence, History, Distribution, and
Status by Robert L. Pyle Peter Pyle http://hbs.bishopmuseum.org/birds/rlp-monograph/
