Japanese White-eyes recorded per party hour on the Lihue Christmas Count (see

Count Page) in 1972-1992, along with data from the Kapa'a Christmas Count,

indicating significant declines on Kaua'i. It is possible that this species underwent its

population peak in the 1940s-1960s and is now declining, as often occurs with

introduced bird populations in Hawaii.
