Haleakalā Crater, along Sliding Sands Trail, Maui. Vegetative rosettes of the silversword Argyroxiphium sandwicense subsp. macrocephalum (‘ahinahina) in alpine cinder habitat. This subspecies is endemic to East Maui and is listed as Threatened under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.



Bog Pēpē‘ōpae Bog, The Nature Conservancy Kamakou Preserve, Moloka‘i, a Montane Wet Mixed Bog Community dominated by low-growing Metrosideros polymorpha (‘ōhi‘a) and two sedges, the tussock-forming Oreobolus furcatus and the clumping Rhynchospora chinensis subsp. spiciformis (kuolohia).




Hedyotis Hedyotis fluviatilis, a scandent shrub along Castle Trail, Punalu‘u, O‘ahu, is endemic to O‘ahu and Kaua‘i. The species is a potential candidate (C2) for listing under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.





Lobelia Lobelia gaudichaudii subsp. gaudichaudiion windward slope of Ko‘olau summit at the end of ‘Aiea Ridge Trail. The species is endemic to the Ko‘olau Mountains, O‘ahu.








Hesperomannia Hesperomannia arbuscula along the Wai‘anae Kai Trail, Wai‘anae Range, O‘ahu. This rare tree is endemic to the Wai‘anae Mountains of O‘ahu and to West Maui, and is listed as endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.



Trematolobelia Trematolobelia macrostachys (koli‘i) on Summit Ridge above Ha‘ikū Valley, O‘ahu.








Wilkesia Wilkesia gymnoxiphium (iliau), a Kaua‘i endemic, on the Iliau Nature Loop, Koke‘e, Kaua‘i.
