Family ANTEFUNGIVORIDAE

The majority of the Antefungivoridae have previously been placed in the family Pleciomimidae. Two family-group names proposed earlier than Pleciomimidae fall within the concept of this family and can be used for the family-group name: Antiquamediidae and Antefungivoridae. The Antefungivoridae is used here in this catalog to represent all taxa placed previously in Antiquamediidae, Antefungivoridae, and Pleciomimidae. The classification of Kovalev (1990) is followed for this family, in which the family Sinemediidae is included.

Matile (1981) discussed the phylogenetics of this and other taxa related to Mycetophilidae and stated that the Antefungivoridae (as Pleciomimidae) may be polyphyletic as currently constructed.
In addition to the described taxa listed here, Zherichin (1978: 82) recorded this family (as Pleciomimidae) from Cretaceous Siberian amber and Ross & Jarzembowski (1993: 406) recorded the family (as Pleciomimidae) from the Lower Jurassic, possibly based on unpublished data.
