Homepage / Checklist of families
The Axymyiidae is a small family of nematoceran flies similar in appearance to Bibionidae, with extant species occurring in Europe, Canada, and Japan. Little is known of their biologies with immatures being found in decomposing wood. Extant species are known from six species in three genera. The fossil fauna is similar in numbers of species (5 in 4 genera) and very ancient, with all known fossils from the Middle Jurassic of China.
