Ussatchev (1968) erected the family Eremochaetidae for the single genus
Eremochaeta Ussatchev. Kovalev (1989a) discussed the systematics
and classification of the family, including in it three genera. Based on
morphological characters shown in the fossil specimens, Kovalev (1989a)
surmised that the group was parasitic and thermophilic. All taxa have thus
far been found in the Cretaceous and Jurassic deposits of Mongolia and Transbaikalia
in eastern Russia.
Krivosheina & Zaitzev (1989) placed the family in the basalmost position
of their infraorder Asilomorpha (which essentially is equal to orthorrhaphous
Brachycera) with a questionable connection to the Bombylioidea.
