Kahanu Garden is the home of the largest heiau in the Hawaiian Islands, Pi‘ilanihale Heiau. Here the interns walk past one of the many varieties of Hawaiian taro (kalo) and sugarcane, carrying sticks of hau (Hibiscus tiliaceus) which they strip and use the inner bark to create cordage.
