From grassland to shrubland

  Internship home
Weeks 4 and 5 of the internship involved the clearing of invasive non-native plant species from marked plots at a dry, ko‘oloa ‘ula grassland site. In week 5 the interns planted seedlings of native plants appropriate for the area. Short-term water supply was provided by plastic bottles with small holes punched in the top placed in the soil next to the small plants. Continued maintenance and extension of the plots is being undertaken by the interns and upcoming high school students.
