Ocean fieldwork

Lanai Conservation Internship, 2003

Ocean Field Sites:

learning a little marine biology

  Internship home
The marine intern group, headed by Dr. Shelley James, Jack Fisher and Napua Harbottle, spent two mornings learning to identify limu, and undertook research to determine the distribution of limu on the reefs at Manele Bay and Shipwreck Beach . At Manele Bay, transects were run across the reef, and the cover of limu within quadrats was determined. The murky waters of Shipwreck Breach provided another important lesson about the problems of erosion on Lanai. On Oahu, the students collected samples of their project species to create herbarium specimens at Bishop Museum.
