Koele:

Invasive species heaven

  Internship home
The clearing of invasive non-native plant species from marked plots at the steep Koele site included a hair-raising hike along the "death-trail". Native species at the site included lama and ‘ohi‘a lehua. The students planted seedlings of ‘ulei, nanu, and others. Short-term water supply was provided by plastic bottles with small holes punched in the top placed in the soil next to the small plants. Continued removal of the strawberry guava and Christmasberry is being undertaken by the interns and upcoming high school students.
